If you want the easiest Nigerian Snack to make then this Fish Pie is for you. I’ll be sharing my favourite fish fillings to make it with and two different ways to make it.

Fish Pie Ingredients

For the dough

  • 300g (2½ cups) plain flour (APF)
  • 5g (1-2 tsp) yeast
  • ½ cup warm milk
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • 1 egg
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

For the filling

I have 3 different fish fillings
1. Sardine filling needs only one ingredient

  • 2 tins sardines

2. Mackerel Filling

  • Small piece mackerel
  • 1 seasoning cube
  • ¼ onion
  • Habanero pepper

3. Salmon Filling

  • Small piece salmon
  • 1 seasoning cube
  • ½ tsp thyme
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • Black pepper (to taste)
  • ½ orange
  • ¼ onion
  • Butter (for sautée)

Tools and utensils you’ll need

Directions for making the Nigerian Fish Pie

  1. Prepare the filling using the procedure detailed in the video below.
  2. Prepare the dough, fill cut and deep fry.
  3. It can aslo be baked at 180 degrees Celsius (350F) but that will give a whole different meal/snack.
