Plantain Fufu is one of the most healthy Nigerian fufu meals. It is made with unripe plantains (green plantains) which are known to be low in sugar hence can help keep blood sugar levels low.

Ingredients for Plantain Fufu

You only need two ingredients:

  • Unripe Plantains (green plantains)
  • Water

There are 4 kitchen tools/appliances you can use to turn the boiled plantains into plantain fufu:

  • Potato Masher and Wooden Spatula
  • Blender
  • Stand Mixer
  • Mortar and Pestle

How to use all of the above is shown in the video below.

Directions for Making Plantain Fufu

  1. Wash the unripe plantains very well and pat dry with a towel.
  2. Peel and slice them. See video below. plantain fufu slices
  3. Put the sliced plantains into a pot, pour water to cover the pieces and start cooking on medium heat.
  4. Cook till you can easily crush the pieces of plantains with a fork.
  5. Decant the water into a bowl and set aside because you may need the water later to make the plantain fufu softer.
  6. Now use any of the tools stated above to mash the pieces of boiled plantains into a smooth dough. See the video below for all the 4 methods in action. plantain fufu pound
  7. If necessary, add the water from 5 above and mix till you get the consistency you like for your Plantain Fufu.
